Artist Statement:
I am most interested in duality, the tension and harmony between polarities - specifically of complementary and contrasting colors, and within aspects of self and identity. These works are anchored by portraits of hands, hands serving as sites of generational innovations, lessons, love, and care. As a printmaker, I am most excited to tell the stories found in between the rhythms of the linocut process and the blending of mediums. Carved from linoleum and collaged on top of acrylic paintings - these multilayered works speak to the multifaceted reality of straddling many worlds simultaneously as a queer, neurodivergent Ecuadorian Puerto Rican American femme.
I am a process-based artist, where the process of artmaking and creating grants me the practice of being free. I view the process of creating as opportunities to face myself at each beginning and to approach myself with gentleness and love while telling a story. As the horrors of a white supremacist colonial patriarchy persist, so do I, tending to my relationship with myself and my community by telling stories of beauty, alchemized pain into joy, reclamation and indigenous innovation. My ancestry, earth kinship, spirituality and the anticolonial resistance of the Caribbean shape my practice.
